Green Gadgets – Smart Power Adapters
Posted on | April 17, 2010 | No Comments
Earth Day is quickly approaching, so I thought posting a few updates about green gadgets would be helpful. We technophiles have more wall warts and chargers than outlets in our home. It’s one of the unfortunate parts of electronics and technology. Managing that power is something the folks at TrickleStar have taken care of. They created the two products listed below, one for PC the other for TV, to help reduce the power consumption of devices that are not in use. Basically, these smart power adapters will turn off devices that are not in use. It’s a great idea! Especially, for those of you who have five wall warts hanging out of a plug right now with no devices attached. These wall warts consume a huge amount of electricity. I have seen estimates that claim a total of 5% of your personal electricity use comes from idle cell phone and personal electronic chargers.
TrickleStar PC TrickleSaver
The device connects to a PC via a standard USB connector and detects the power status of the PC. When a PC is powered On the product will switch On all peripheral devices. Conversely when a PC is switched Off, the product will switch Off all peripheral devices.
TrickleStar TV TrickleSaver

The TrickleStar TV TrickleSaver reduces the standby energy consumed by TV accessories. The product has inbuilt current sensing circuitry to sense when a TV is on or Off.
If anyone has used either of these products, let me know as I am considering buying one.
